Weed Inspections

As part of Big Lakes County’s responsibility under the Weed Act, and the County Weed Control Policy, weed inspections are done every season. Inspections begin in late May and continue until September. Notification letters are sent to landowners of privately held land that inspectors record infestations on. These letters are meant to assist landowners by making them aware of the invasive plants on their property so they can be dealt with in a timely fashion and are not meant to be seen as Weed Notices. Weed Notices are a legal proceeding under the provincial Weed Act and are issued when all other attempts to work with landowners have failed.

Information on additional weeds in the Province of Alberta listed in the Weed Act can be found at Alberta Invasive Species Council.
